Gophers Split Pair of Matches Wednesday

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Goucher College men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Wednesday at the USTA National Tennis Center.  The Gophers were downed by Oglethorpe 6-3 before rebounding to defeat Saint Ambrose 7-2 Wednesday afternoon.

• Goucher (3-4) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles against Oglethorpe (6-3)
• Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) and Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion) earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
• At No. 3, Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) and Joshua Noel (Ennis, Texas/Ennis) posted an 8-4 triumph at No. 3.
• The Stormy Petrels earned five of six singles points to claim the victory.
• Cerpa rallied at No. 3 singles for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 victory.
• Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) forced a third set at No. 5 before dropping a 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 decision.

• Against Saint Ambrose (4-8) Cerpa and Noel picked up their second doubles win of the day, 8-2, at No. 2.
• Zach Klein (Bethesda, Md./Bullis) and Ryan Wartenberg (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) registered an 8-3 triumph at third doubles.
• The Gophers captured the Nos. 2-6 doubles to secure the win.
• Cerpa capped his 4-0 day with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win at No. 2 singles.
• Nguyen prevailed 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3, while Noel was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 4.
• Beam won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5, with Wartenberg posting a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.

• Wartenberg improved to 5-2 in singles action with his win over the Fighting Bees.

• Goucher continues its Orlando spring break swing against Luther on Thursday at 11:30 am.
