Gophers Bounce Back With Win at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Goucher College jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a sweep of doubles as it took down a 7-2 Landmark Conference men's tennis victory over Catholic University Wednesday afternoon at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
- Goucher (5-8, 4-1 Landmark) swept doubles from Catholic (6-8, 2-2).
- Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) and Tadeo Asprella (La Plata, Argentina / Instituto Jose Manuel Estrada) picked up the first point with an 8-2 win at No. 2.
- Gabe Naftoly (Newburyport, Mass./Berwick Academy) and Theo Lucke (Ahlen, Germany / Städtisches Gymnasium Ahlen) registered an 8-3 win at No. 3.
- Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) and Jackson Beam (Knightdale, N.C./Knightdale) closed out the sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 1.
- Asprella and Naftoly won at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, with Naftoly clinching the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win.
- The top three singles flights all went to a third set.
- Nguyen won 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 at No. 2, while Beam rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 triumph at No. 3.
- Cerpa fell 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 at No. 1.
- Lucke fell in three sets at No. 6, dropping a 2-6, 6-0, 10-5 decision.
- Asprella extended his singles winning streak to six matches.
- Cerpa and Asprella won their fifth straight doubles match.
- Goucher extended its win streak over the Cardinals to seven matches, with the last Catholic win coming in 2013-14.
- The Gophers are back home Saturday for a doubleheader, taking on Susquehanna in conference action at 1 before taking on Stevenson in a non-conference match following the conclusion of the first match.
