Gophers Wrap Up at Greyhounds Men's Tennis Classic
BALTIMORE - The Goucher College men's tennis team competed in the Greyhounds Men's Tennis Classic hosted by Loyola University of Maryland this weekend. The tournament saw the Gophers compete against three Division I teams in the host Greyhounds, Coppin State and Howard. The tournament was cut short after Saturday's action was wiped out by rain.
Gabe Naftoly and Calis Nguyen won their initial doubles match against a pair from Loyola 6-3. In singles, Naftoly took his Greyhound opponent to a third set before falling 3-6, 6-1, 10-7. Later they advanced in the consolation quarterfinals against Coppin State, winning their doubles match 6-4 while each won their singles match against their Eagle opponents.
Unai Laguardia Alvarez and and Tadeo Asprella also won their opening doubles match dowing their Loyola foes 6-2. They later won in the consolation quarters, with each winning their singles match against Loyola. Laguardia Alvarez was an 8-2 winner, while Asprella won 8-5.
Angel Cerpa and Benedikt Rummel also won their consolation quarterfinal, prevailing 2-1 over Howard. In doubles they won 6-3, while Rummel won his singles match 8-7 (5).
The Greyhound Men's Tennis Classic closed out the fall season for the Gophers.
