Gophers Pick Up First Spring Win at Marymount (Va.)

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Goucher College men's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring on Sunday afternoon, downing Marymount (Va.) University 7-0 at Virginia Highlands Park.
- Goucher (3-3) swept all three doubles matches from the Saints (3-2).
- Tadeo Asprella and Jackson Beam registered an 8-0 victory at No. 2.
- Ethan Katz and George King were 8-1 winners at No. 3.
- At No. 1, Calis Nguyen and Gabe Naftoly registered an 8-3 triumph.
- The Gophers rallied to win in each of the top two flights.
- At No. 1, Unai Laguardia Alvarez dropped the first set 7-5 before winning 6-2 in the second set and taking the third set tiebreaker 10-6.
- Asprella also rallied, posting a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 10-4 triumph.
- Nguyen was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 3.
- Manny Vidal prevailed 6-3 and 6-1 at No. 6.
- The No. 4 and 5 singles matches were abandoned due to weather.
- Goucher picked up its first win of the spring as it had been 0-3 in spring matches to date.
- The Gophers and Saints were meeting for the first time, as Marymount began competition in 2019-20.
- Goucher is idle until Monday, March 18 when it takes on Hobart to kick off its spring break trip in Orlando.
- The next Gopher home match is slated for Wednesday, March 27 when Goucher hosts Catholic in a 3:30 contest at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
