Gophers Complete Weekend Sweep at Scranton

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. - The Goucher College men's tennis team completed a sweep of its weekend Landmark Conference matches with a 7-2 win over the University of Scranton at the Birchwood Racquet Club on Sunday.

The Gophers (6-7, 2-0 Landmark) staked themselves to a 2-1 lead after doubles.
Angel Cerpa and Benedikt Rummel registered an 8-2 win at No. 2.
Unai Laguardia Alvarez and Tadeo Asprella prevailed 8-2 in their match at third doubles.
Scranton (2-8, 1-2) won at No. 1, downing Calis Nguyen and Gabe Naftoly 8-7 (7-2).

Asprella and Cerpa earned three set wins at No. 3 and No. 4.
Asprella ralled for his win at third singles 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 4, Cerpa held off his opponent for a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory.
Naftoly was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 2.
Nguyen dispatched his opponent at No. 5 6-2, 6-1.
Rummel registered a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in No. 6 singles.

Rummel ran his singles win streak to four matches.
Goucher won its third straight against the Royals and has captured eight of the last 10 matchups.

Goucher is slated to return to action Wednesday when it hosts Catholic in a 3:30 pm Landmark match at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
