Gophers Snap Drew's 27-Match Landmark Regular Season Win Streak

MADISON, N.J. - The Goucher College men's tennis team snapped Drew University's 27-match Landmark Conference regular season win streak with a 5-4 victory over the Rangers Saturday afternoon at the Drew Tennis Complex. Benedikt Rummel snapped a 4-4 tie with his win at No. 6 singles.
- Drew (8-5, 5-1 Landmark) took a 2-1 lead after doubles.
- Tadeo Asprella and Unai Laguardia Alvarez posted an 8-7 (7-3) win at No. 3 doubles for Goucher (8-8, 5-0 Landmark).
- Gabe Naftoly collected a 6-3, 6-2 win at second singles to tie the match 2-2.
- The Rangers won at No. 3 and No. 4 to jump back in front and take a 4-2 lead.
- Asprella won his first set at No. 3 before falling 1-6, 6-1, 6-3.
- Laguardia Alvarez registered a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 to pull Goucher within 4-3.
- Calis Nguyen tied the match with his 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5.
- Rummel took the first set in his match at No. 6 6-4. In the second set, he trailed 5-3 before winning the final four games to pull out the win and clinch the match.
- Goucher and Drew have met in the last two Landmark championship matches. The Rangers won last season, while the Gophers won in 2022
- In addition to snapping Drew's 27-match conference regular season win streak that dated back to 2019, Goucher stopped Drew's 14-match win streak against Landmark opponents, as the Gophers were the last Landmark team to defeat the Rangers in that 2022 final.
- Rummel won his seventh straight singles match.
- Goucher and Moravian are the two remaining unbeaten teams in Landmark play.
