TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men's tennis team opened its season with a convincing 7-0 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland Saturday afternoon at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
The Gophers (1-0) swept doubles to earn the doubles point. Calis Nguyen and Gabe Naftoly were 6-0 winners at No. 1, while Jackson Beam and Benedikt Rummel recorded a 6-4 win at No. 2. Tadeo Asprella and newcomer Guilherme Moraes were 6-2 winners at No. 3.
Goucher defeated the Seahawks (0-1) in straight sets in all six singles tilts. Asprella was victorious 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, while George King prevailed 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Ethan Katz dropped just one set in a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 6.
The Gophers close out the fall slate Wednesday, October 16 at Penn State Harrisburg.
