DMR Quartet Leads Goucher at Indoor Championships

The Gophers' foursome of Isaac Jennings (Narberth, Pa./Harriton), Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point), Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) and Mark Egan (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) finished the race in 11:10.59, just over three seconds ahead of Merchant Marine in fourth place. That was the fourth-fastest time in school history, and it contributed six points to Goucher's overall total.
Shannon Sanders, Jr. (Nashville, Tenn./University School of Nashville) recorded the top individual finish for the Gophers, grabbing four points with his fourth place showing in the 200-meter dash. Sanders completed the race in 23.80, ending up eight-tenths of a second behind conference champion Kwane Hayle from Susquehanna.
Goucher also earned two points apiece from fifth place results in the two other relay events. Byrum, Eli Schwartz (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley), Hugh Geller (Devens, Mass./Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School) and Christian Ribeiro (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) completed the 4 x 200-meter relay in 1:47.87, while Byrum, Jennings, Schwartz and Egan registered a time of 3:48.36 in the 4 x 400-meter relay.
Doug Falk (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) recorded the only point for Goucher in the field portion of the competition. His distance of 1.78 meters in the high jump was good enough for sixth place.
The Gophers totaled 15 points overall, finishing the championships in sixth place, four points behind Catholic for fifth.
Moravian emerged as Landmark champions for the sixth time in the conference's seven-year existence. The Greyhounds' 213 points overall edged out second place Susquehanna by 18 points.
The outdoor portion of Goucher's track & field season begins Friday, March 21 at the Battleground Relays in Fredericksburg, Va.
