Chukwu Continues to Dominate 110M Record
Freshman Ogemdi Chukwu (Paris, France) was busy again on Saturday at the Messiah College Invitational, breaking his previous record in the 110 hurdles – twice.
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Ogemdi Chukwu (Paris, France) was busy again on Saturday at the Messiah College Invitational, breaking his previous record in the 110 hurdles – twice.
Chukwu stepped up to the line for trials holding the Goucher College record in the event, but he rattled off a time of 15.35, surpassing his previous record of 15.55. However, he returned to for the finals heat and shattered his personal best with a time of 15.04 – earning him second place in the race. With the time, the sprinter from Paris, France currently stands with the 24th fastest time in the nation and is .001 seconds off the conference best for the 2017 outdoor track & field season
Goucher's Top Performances:
- First-year Jason Higginbotham (Brunswick, ME) shaved 20 seconds off his personal best in the 5,000-meter run, posting a time of 17:44.17 for 14th place in the event.
- Freshman Darby Bauer (Perkiomenville, Pa.) placed 24th in the hammer throw with a distance of 26.74 meters.
Coaches' Thought:
"This is the first weekend that Ogemdi had someone to push him in a race – he matched that challenge and showed that he is a quality Division III hurdler. He has a lot of work to do over the next four weeks to get ready for the Landmark Conference championships, but he made huge strides today."
