Bauer Hammers Home School Record To Pace Goucher Track And Field At Battlefield Relays
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Darby Bauer (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown Area) broke the school record in the hammer to lead the Goucher College track and field team at the Battlefield Relays on Friday.
Bauer became the first Gopher to toss the hammer over 40 meters and he did it twice on the afternoon. The junior posted his best throw on his first attempt with a distance of 42.36m to destroy the program record that Lovell Kosh (38.32m, April 27, 2012) set at the Landmark Conference Championships in 2012. Using feet to measure, Bauer beats Kosh's program record by 13 feet.
"Darby continues to improves this season," said head coach John Caslin. " He has worked very hard this season and he is just getting started."
After the record-setting hurl Bauer had three fouls, but then would have broken the school record with his next two attempts, throwing the hammer 39.48 on his fifth attempt and 41.17 on his sixth and final attempt. He finished fourth in the hammer. Bauer finished up the day with a third-place standing In the javelin with a chuck of 36.00m
Taylor Gunter (Laurel, Md./Sandy Spring Friends School), the current Landmark Conference Field Athlete of the Week, placed fourth in the hammer with a toss of 36.38m.
Hannah Brogan (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) placed second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 13.42.19 to notch the top finish on the women's side.
Anna Gallina (White Hall, Pa./White Hall) finished eighth in the 200m (27.49) and Sydney Smith (Falls Church, Va./George Mason HS) was 15th in the 200m (29.49). Mikayla Hinnant (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) registered a 10th-place standing in the hammer (24.25m).
Connor Lawrence (North Potomac, Md./Woolton) (3000m, 11:10.10) and Langston Henry (New York, N.Y./Grace Church) (200m, 24.46) each posted a 10th-place finish and Brandon Julot (Baltimore, Md./The SEED School of Maryland) was 11th in the hammer (24.77).
Kai Miller (Harlem, N.Y.) finished 17th in the 200m (25.61) and Miles (Mia) Taylor (Bowie, Md./Wakefield) finished 21st in the 200m (26.86).
Goucher College continues to compete in the Battlefield Relays on Saturday. The Battlefield Relays was the first-ever invitational the track and field program competed in during its inaugural season of 2000.
