Julot Places Eighth In Shot Put To Lead Goucher Track And Field
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – How do you top earning the Landmark Conference Field Athlete of the Week? Well, if you ask Taylor Gunter (Laurel, Md./Sandy Spring Friends School) its backing last week's performance with a pair of first-place finishes including setting a new standard in the discus at the Battlefield Relays to fuel the Goucher College track and field team on Saturday.
One day after Darby Bauer (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown Area) set a new record in the hammer at the Battlefield Relays, Gunter set a new program standard in the discus with a hurl of 37.66. The junior bested Natalie Kent's 37.31m mark that she tossed at the Messiah Invitational on April 8, 2017. The current Landmark Conference Field Athlete of the Week also won the shot put with a throw of 11.49m. Both of her throws on Saturday were better than the two at the Jim Taylor Invitational last week and she now ranks third in the Mideast Regional in the discus while holding the top marks in the shot put and discus in the circuit and second In the hammer.
Mikayla Hinnant (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) also had a nice day in the throws, finishing fourth in both the shot put (10.17m) and the discus (29.92m) while Victoria Wheeler (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) was fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:22.63).
Anna Gallina (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) placed sixth in the 100m (13.17) and Hannah Brogan (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) finished 12th in the 1500m (5:41.71).
On the men's side, the 4x400 sprint medley relay team of Langston Henry (New York, N.Y./Grace Church School), Miles (Mia) Taylor (Bowie, Md./Wakefield), Kai Miller (Harlem, N.Y.) and Connor Lawrence (North Potomac, Md./Woolton) finished fourth (4:26.85).
Brandon Julot (Baltimore, Md./The SEED School of Maryland) placed eighth in the shot put (11.41m) and 13th in the discus (28.81m) while Bauer was 12th in the discus (29.58m).
Henry (400m hurdles, 1:11.95) and Miller (400m, 58.51) both posted 14th-place standings while Matthew Knudson (Washington, D.C./E.L. Haynes) was 16th in the 1500m (5:25.30).
Goucher returns to action next weekend when the throwers go to the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational on Friday and the rest of the Gophers will be at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday.
