Darby Bauer Named Landmark Conference Field Athlete Of The Week
BALTIMORE, Md. – Darby Bauer (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown Area), a member of the Goucher College track and field team, has been named the Landmark Conference Field Athlete Of The Week for the week of April 1-7. It is the first time that he has earned a conference weekly honor.
Bauer became the first Gopher to toss the hammer over 40 meters and he did it twice on Friday. The junior posted his best throw on his first attempt with a distance of 42.36m to destroy the program record that Lovell Kosh (38.32m, April 27, 2012) set at the Landmark Conference Championships in 2012. Using feet to measure, Bauer beats Kosh's program record by 13 feet. After the record-setting hurl Bauer had three fouls, but then would have broken the school record with his next two attempts, throwing the hammer 39.48 on his fifth attempt and 41.17 on his sixth and final attempt. He finished fourth in the hammer. Bauer finished up the day with a third-place standing In the javelin with a chuck of 36.00m. Bauer was 12th in the discus (29.58m) on Saturday.
Bauer and the rest of the throwers will head to the Johns Hopkins/Loyola Invitational on Friday while the rest of the team heads to the Messiah Invitational.
