Pair of Freshmen Guide Goucher to 29th Place
WAYNESBURG, PA — Goucher's Zach Martin (Victor, NY/Victor Central) came close to cracking the top 100 today at the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regional. The freshman completed the 8,000-meter race in 29:13, good for 106th place. The individual champion was Macharia Yuot from Widener, who crossed the finish line in 25:58.

WAYNESBURG, PA — Goucher's Zach Martin
(Victor, NY/Victor Central) came close to cracking the top
100 today at the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regional.
The freshman completed the 8,000-meter race in 29:13, good for
106th place. The individual champion was Macharia Yuot from
Widener, who crossed the finish line in 25:58.
Another freshman was the second Goucher runner to complete the
race: Sean Mack (Albany, NY/Albany) in 160th place
with a time of 30:08.
The next three runners from Goucher to cross the finish line were
sophomore Matt Spitznagel (Parkton, MD/Friends School of
Baltimore) in 165th place (30:14), senior Matt
Tilghman (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield) in
175th (30:27) and senior Wells Holbrook (Knoxville, TN/Knox
West) in 190th (30:53).
A total of 268 runners competed in the race.
In the final team scoring, Goucher placed 29th out of the 39 teams
which fielded a full team of at least five runners. The Gophers
produced a team score of 789. First place went to Haverford (51
points), followed ghy Allegheny (54) in second and Carnegie Mellon
(123) in third.
