TOWSON, MD — Goucher finished in fifth place today
at the Goucher Cross Country Classic.
Rowan, which bunched its top five runners among the first seven
finishers in the 8,000-meter race, captured the team title with 22
points. Johns Hopkins (61 points) was runner-up, followed by York
(84), Howard Community (120), Goucher (121), Hood (177), Lebanon
Valley (212), Drew (216) and Gloucester County (232).
The individual champion was Rowan's Erik Geisinger with a winning
time of 28:36.49.
The first Goucher runner to cross the finish line was freshman
Zach Martin (Victor, NY/Victor) in 18th place and
a time of 30:12.75. Matt Spitznagel (Parkton, MD/Friends
School of Baltimore) followed in 25th place and a time of
30:50.15.
Counting Martin and Spitznagel, Goucher had six runners complete
the race within 2:00 of each other: Leon Davis (Medfield,
MA/Medfield) in 29th place with a time of 31:16.95,
Matt Tilghman (Charlottesville, VA/St.
Anne's-Belfield) in 33rd (31:27.05), Wells
Holbrook (Knoxville, TN/Knox West) in 35th (31:32.05) and
Sean Mack (Albany, NY/Albany) in 40th
(32.02.12).
A total of 87 runners completed the race.
