HUNT VALLEY, Md. – Goucher finished ahead of three Division I schools in capturing fifth place at the 26th annual Baltimore Metro Meet, which was conducted this afternoon at Oregon Ridge State Park.
Matt Spitznagel (Parkton, Md./Friends School of Baltimore) was the first Goucher runner to cross the finish line in the 5,000-meter race as he turned in a time of 16:47, which is a new school record for that distance. He placed 28th overall. Joe Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) also beat the former mark by completing the race in 17:12, good for 43rd place.
The next three runners from Goucher to come in were Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) in 51st place (17:31), Tom Stabler (Keene, N.H./Keene) in 66th place (18:31) and Brendan Ference (Smallwood, N.Y./Monticello) in 69th place (19:01).
The team title went to Binghamton, which earned a near-perfect team score of 16 points. Johns Hopkins was second with 46 points, followed by Loyola (Md.) in third with 91 points, McDaniel (128 points) in fourth, Goucher (157) in fifth, Delaware St. (167) in sixth, Coppin St. (181) in seventh and Morgan St. (211) in eighth.
