YORK, Pa. – Goucher's Matt Spitznagel (Parkton, Md./Friends School of Baltimore) crossed the finish line in seventh place and two of his teammates were among the top 25 runners at today's York Invitational, which was conducted at John Rudy Park.
Spitznagel turned in a time of 27:57.75 for the 8,000-meter race. The next Goucher runners to come in following Spitznagel were Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) and Tom Stabler (Keene, N.H./Keene). Scipione was clocked at 29:18.44, good for 16th place overall, and Stabler wound up in 22nd place with his time of 29:48.17.
Goucher's next two runners were Andrew Gethins (Mohegan Lake, N.Y//Lakeland) in 34th place (32:07.19) and Brendan Ference (Smallwood, N.Y./Monticello) one spot back in 35th (32:40.56).
In the team scoring, Goucher's score of 104 points was bettered by only three schools: McDaniel took first with 34 points, York was second with 39 and Albright third with 92. After the Gophers were Hood in fifth place (130 points) and Lancaster Bible in sixth (140).
