Goucher Earns Team Score of 111 Points for Fourth Place

TOWSON, Md. – Goucher's Joe Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) placed 10th among runners from competing institutions and 14th overall today at the only race that will be run on the Goucher campus this season.
The first runner to cross the finish line in the Goucher Cross Country Classic was Ken Bunnell from the U.S. Naval Academy. His winning time of 26:52.09 is a new record for the 8,000-meter course.
Pat Quinn, also from Navy, was the runner-up with a time of 26:58.82.
The only Division III runners to finish ahead of Negreann were Sean Trott from Lancaster Bible (27:57.36) in eighth place and Jesse Jaeger from York (28:12.81) in 12th place. Negreann concluded the race in 28:22.39.
After Negreann, the next Goucher runner to come in was Matt Spitznagel (Parkton, Md./Friends School of Baltimore), who placed 17th in a field of 57 runners. Spitznagel's time: 28:46.85.
Goucher next three runners all made the top 40: Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) in 32nd place (30:20.66), Tom Stabler (Keene, N.H./Keene) in 35th place (30:53.51) and Brendan Ference (Smallwood, N.Y./Monticello) in 40th place (32:02.69).
With a nearly perfect score of 16 points, Navy's "B" team finished in first place, followed by Dickinson (74 points) in second, York (90) in third, Goucher (111) in fourth, Morgan St. (114) in fifth and Lancaster Bible (156) in sixth.
