Team Score of 918 Puts Goucher in 33rd Place Again

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – A freshman was Goucher's top performer today at the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regional.
Joe Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) was the first Goucher runner to cross the finish line as he completed the 8,000-meter race in 28:22, good for 141st place in a field of 306 runners.
Senior Matt Spitznagel (Parkton, Md./Friends School of Baltimore) and freshman Tom Stabler (Keene, N.H./Keene) were the next two Goucher runners to come in. Spitznagel finished in 160th place, which is two spots ahead of where he was at regionals last year, with a time of 28:36; Stabler ran a season-best time of 29:36, winding up in 199th place.
The other two runners who scored for Goucher were sophomore Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) in 206th place with a time of 29:41 and freshman Asa Cameron (Elkins Park Pa./Cheltenham) in 239th place with a time of 30:26.
Brian Harvey, a senior from Carnegie Mellon, was the individual champion. His winning time was 25:10.
Carnegie Mellon also captured the team title with a score of 37 points. Second place went to Allegheny with 73 points.
Goucher earned a team score of 918 points, which put the Gophers in 33rd place for the second consecutive year.
