Reward for First-Place Performance at Saturday's Metro Meet
MADISON, N.J. — As a reward for running the fastest time for a 5,000-meter race in the history of Goucher's men's cross country program and placing first in a field of 59 runners on Saturday at the annual Baltimore Metro Meet, Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) was recognized today as his sport's Player of the Week in the Landmark Conference.
Negreann, who earned second-team All-Landmark Conference honors in 2009 by placing 14th overall at the conference meet, was clocked at 16:07.64 Saturday and finished more than nine seconds ahead of the runner-up, Nick Kisley from Johns Hopkins (16:07.64). The junior's performance helped the Gophers place third in the team scoring.
Goucher hadn't produced an individual champion at the Metro Meet since a first-place performance by Jeff Olenick in 2000.
