Negreann Crosses Finish Line First at Achtzehn Classic
MT. WOLF, Pa. — By running the 20th fastest time for an 8,000-meter race in the history of Goucher's men's cross country program, senior Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) captured first place in a field of 97 runners at today's Coach Achtzehn Classic conducted at John Rudy County Park.
Gophers Earn Team Score of 129 Points, Good for Fifth Place
MT. WOLF, Pa. — By running the 20th fastest time for an 8,000-meter race in the history of Goucher's men's cross country program, senior Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) captured first place in a field of 97 runners at today's Coach Achtzehn Classic conducted at John Rudy County Park.
Negreann was clocked at 26:35.90 and finished more than 11 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Tim Hartung from York (26:46.95).
The next two Goucher runners to cross the finish after Negreann were junior Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) in 23rd place and sophomore Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) in 36th. Manta was clocked at 29:23.40 and Browne at 30:12.86.
A pair of freshmen also figured in Goucher's team score of 129 points: Mark Egan (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) in 51st place (31:45.86) and Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) in 53rd (31:50.09).
As a team, the Gophers finished in fifth place behind only York, which captured the team title with a score of 31 points, Franklin & Marshall in second (44 points), and St. Mary's (Md.) and McDaniel, which tied for third (112). After Goucher came Frostburg St. in sixth (159), Penn State-Altoona in seventh (198), Marymount in eighth (233), Penn State-Harrisburg in ninth (272), Lancaster Bible in 10th (282) and Gallaudet in 11th (294).
