Manta Finishes Ahead of Southworth, Clair on Long Course

Half Second Separates Jennings, Byrum in 4,000-Meter Race
NEWVILLE, Pa. — Goucher had five runners entered in a race for the first time in 2012-13, but because of the unique long course/short course format under which the Dickinson Invitational is conducted, the Gophers still didn't receive a team score.
Two of Goucher's runners competed in the 4,000-meter race and they finished back-to-back in 63rd and 64th place. Isaac Jennings (Narberth, Pa./Harriton) crossed the finish line in 14:52.8, exactly one-half second ahead of Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point).
Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) was Goucher's top performer in the longer race, a distance of 8,000 meters. He was clocked at 29:57.0, good for 133rd place in a field of 233 runners.
The remaining Goucher runners finished two seconds apart: Andrew Southworth (Madbury, N.H./Oyster River) turned in a time of 30:46.0 and Joshua Clair (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) finished in 30:48.0. Southworth placed 163rd overall, one spot ahead of Clair.
First place in the longer race went to Bobby Over from Allegheny. His winning time was 26:01.0.
