Manta's Time Good for 19th at Goucher Classic

Navy Sweeps All Three Podium Spots

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher graduated the two-time defending champion for the race, but the team's remaining members earned enough points to place sixth.

After being frustrated by Joey Negreann in back-to-back years, Navy finally broke through to win the individual competition as well as the team contest. Negreann, a national qualifier, beat out 12 members of the U.S. Naval Academy in 2011, forcing the Fleet to take spots two through 13.

This year, they had no such challenge.

Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) crossed the line first for the Gophers in 19th place, finishing in 29:55.

Next up for Goucher was Andrew Southworth (Madbury, N.H./Oyster River), who finished in 34th place.
