Gophers Field Full Team, Wind Up in Eighth Place
ALTOONA, Pa. — As he has been in four of the team's five previous races this season, senior Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) was Goucher's top performer at the 2012 Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Championships, conducted today at the Fort Roberdeau Historic Site.
Manta, Clair Finish Back-to-Back in 40th, 41st Place
ALTOONA, Pa. — As he has been in four of the team's five previous races this season, senior Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) was Goucher's top performer at the 2012 Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Championships, conducted today at the Fort Roberdeau Historic Site.
Manta finished in 40th place overall, one spot in front of teammate Joshua Clair (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford).
The individual champion was Dillon Farrell from Moravian, who completed the 8,000-meter race in 26:02.20.
Manta posted a time of 28:59.60; Clair followed in 29:03.40.
For only the second time all season, Goucher was able to enter five runners in a race. Andrew Southworth (Madbury, N.H./Oyster River) placed 61st with his time of 30:11.80, then came Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) in 68th place (30:39.20) and Isaac Jennings (Narberth, Pa./Harriton) in 74th (31:10.30).
There were a total of 84 runners in the race.
Moravian captured its second straight conference title as the Greyhounds earned a team score of 39 points. Fifteen points back in second place was Susquehanna and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was third with 75 points.
With a team score of 207 points, head coach John Caslin's Gophers wound up in eighth place.
