Lee Comes In Under 28 Minutes in First Collegiate 8K
EAST MANCHESTER TWP., Pa. — Goucher's Anthony Lee (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River) completed his first 8,000-meter cross country race as a freshman in under 28 minutes on the way to a top 20 finish at today's Coach Achtzehn Classic.
EAST MANCHESTER TWP., Pa. — Goucher's Anthony Lee (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River) completed his first 8,000-meter cross country race as a freshman in under 28 minutes on the way to a top 20 finish at today's Coach Achtzehn Classic.
Lee crossed the finish line at John C. Rudy County Park in 27:57.69, good for 19th place and a spot at No. 64 on Goucher's all-time list for fastest times for an 8K.
Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers), Hugh Geller (Devens, Mass./Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School) and Liam Lanahan (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley) were the next three Goucher runners to cross the finish line. Browne was clocked at 29:45.60, good for 48th place; Geller (30:00.41) and Lanahan (30:01.10) followed in 53rd and 54th place, respectively.
The final runner to figure in the team score of 188 points that the Gophers earned was Matt Forgues (Boothbay, Maine/Boothbay Region), who placed 64th with his time of 30:47.49.
The overall champion was Tim Hartung from York. His winning time was 27:02.17.
The Gophers finished in sixth place in the team standings. The five ahead of them were Franklin & Marshall in first with 38 points, York in second with 48, St. Mary's (Md.) in third with 79, Howard Community in fourth with 124 and Hagerstown Community in fifth with 138.
McDaniel was seventh with 198 points.
