Byrum Sets New PR in Final Collegiate XC Race

NEWVILLE, Pa. — Running the final cross country race of his collegiate career, Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) took over 20 seconds off his previous personal best time at the 8K distance.
Byrum was the top performer for the Goucher men's team at the NCAA D-III Mideast Regional Championships, which were hosted by Dickinson this morning. The senior team captain completed the race in 29:33.20, easily besting his previous top time of 29:56.09 at the Landmark Championships on Nov. 1.
Today's result placed him 234th out of a field of 343 runners. Griffin Stein (Westport, Conn./Staples) and Dietrich Pultinas (Roxbury, Mass./Brimmer and May School) also competed for the Gophers at the event. Stein crossed the line in 301st with a time of 31:56.30, while Pultinas (32:16.70) finished two spots behind his teammate after shaving 31 seconds off his previous fastest result this season.
With only three runners, Goucher did not register a team score. Haverford's Charlie Marquardt was the individual champion after posting a 24:57.40, while Carnegie Mellon had the top team score at 90 points, 25 ahead of second-place Widener.
