Men's XC Takes on the Harrier Challenge
The Goucher College cross country team traveled to Winchester, Va. to take part in the 2017 Hornet Harrier and Commonwealth Challenge on Saturday.
WINCHESTER, Va. – The Goucher College cross country team traveled to Winchester, Va. to take part in the 2017 Hornet Harrier and Commonwealth Challenge on Saturday.
The day began with the open 2-mile race in which three Gophers participated. First-year, Paul Vasquez (Rockville, Md.) placed 10th in the race, posting a 14:03.9 time in the challenge. Fellow first-year, Nathaniel Bacon (Pottstown, Pa.) also participated in the open race, finishing in 14:56.5 for the Gophers.
Goucher also had three men participate in the 6k event, closing out the day. Senior Clay Berg (Pittsboro, N.C.) led the Gophers in the race with a time of 21:35.7, which averages out to a 5:47.4 mile. The time was not only a personal record for the first-year member of the team, but it is the second fasted 6k time in school history.
Sophomore Jason Higginbotham (Brunswick, Maine) was next to break the tape with a time of 23:03.6. He was closely followed by junior Sean O'Flaherty (Hinsdale, Ill.) with a time of 23:05.6. O'Flaherty surpassed his quickest run of the year on the day.
The Gophers are back in action next weekend when they travel to Dickinson College to take part in the Long/Short Invite.
