Goucher Cross Country Unveils Its 2019 Slate
BALTIMORE, Md. – Head coach John Caslin has announced his 2019 Goucher College cross country schedule. The seven-meet schedule is highlighted by Goucher College Cross Country Classic on October 5 and four meets new to the schedule for this season.
The 2019 season is very different for the Gophers with some traditional meets no longer being held," said Caslin. "It allowed us to look at some new racing sites. With Catholic hosting the conference meet in October on a brand new course, the meet that will determine how we train for the championship season will be the Catholic Invitational on September 14."
The team opens the season at the Howard University Labor Day Classic at Kenilworth Park in Washington, D.C., on August 31. It is the first time in program history the team will compete in a Howard country country meet.
The Gophers will remain near the nation's capital and get a preview for the Landmark Conference Championships at the CUA Invitational on September 14 at Colmar Manor Park in Colmar Manor, Maryland. It will be the fourth time Goucher has ran in a Catholic University cross country race.
After a week off, the squad will make its second appearance in the 11th Annual Hornet Harrier Invitational at the Kernstown Battlefield in Winchester, Virginia on September 28. It will be the team's first appearance in the event since 2017 and the third time since 2006 the Gophers have competed in a Shenandoah University cross country event.
The squad will host the annual Goucher College Cross Country Classic on campus on October 5. The men's race will start at 10:30 a.m. and the women will follow at 11:15 a.m. It will be the 27th time the team has hosted a cross country meet dating back to the 1991 campaign. It will also be the 12th time in that span the event has been called the Goucher College Cross Country Classic and will be will ran for the 10th-straight season and for the 19th time in the last 20 years.
The Gophers will then take another week off and have its final tune up for the Landmark Conference Championships with its first appearance in the 13th Annual Hood College Open on October 19 at Utica District Park in Frederick, Maryland.
Goucher returns to Colmar Manor Park for the Landmark Conference Cross Country Championships on November 2.
"We are looking forward the running the NCAA Mid-East Region Qualifier at Lehigh at the end of the season as it has always been very good to us," said Caslin.
The squad will wrap up the season at the NCAA Division III Regional Qualifier at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on November 16. It will be the third time the regional will be held at Lehigh University and the eighth time the Gophers have competed on the course dating back to the 2006 campaign.
