TOWSON, Md. — Multiple First-Team All-Landmark accolades for Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) and Sam Davis (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) highlighted Goucher’s placements on the all-conference teams announced today.
Richter earned a spot on the first team for his wins in the 500-yard freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 fly, while Davis captured titles in the 50 freestyle and 100 free. The five individual championships for the Gophers is a new record for the men’s swimming program, and new school records were set in all five races. Richter’s 200 fly and Davis’ 50 free swims were additionally fast enough to reach NCAA D-III B cut standards, allowing them to provisionally qualify for the NCAA tournament.
Richter joins Mike Raley (1996) as the only male swimmer to win three events in a single season, and his six conference titles overall are the most in the history of the program.
School records were also lowered by each of Goucher’s Second-Team All-Landmark honorees. Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) broke his own marks while finishing as the runner-up in both the 200 individual medley and 200 backstroke, while Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) put her name in the record books in the 500 and 1650 free. Regopoulos is the first women’s swimmer to earn All-Landmark status in multiple events since Britt Hogstrom won the 100 and 200 free back in 2010.
The Gophers had two additional swimmers recognized through their contributions to Second-Team All-Landmark relay teams. Cody Nelson (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont) joined the Richter brothers and Davis in their school record breaking performance in the 200 medley relay on Saturday, while Andrew Coon (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) was a part of Goucher’s runner-up 400 free relay foursome which also established a new school record.
Of the eight major awards handed out after the conclusion of the championships on Sunday, six contained a representative from Merchant Marine. The Mariners swept the Swimmer and Diver of the Year awards on the men’s and women’s side, and their title-winning men’s program also took home co-Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year Accolades.
