TOWSON, Md. — The NCAA is currently in the midst of Division III Week, a nationwide celebration of student-athletes’ academic achievement, athletic accomplishments and community involvement at the D-III level, and Goucher will join in promoting this initiative during Friday night’s home lacrosse game.
The Gophers host Southwestern (Texas) at 6 p.m. on Beldon Field, and the entire campus community is encouraged to attend and show their support for the athletic department. A pre-game tailgate will take place at the Beldon Field Pavilion, with free Chick-Fil-A sandwiches distributed to the first 200 fans.
Both teams will also be wearing t-shirts during warm-ups supporting LAX-4-LIFE, a national campaign designed to provide and support programs geared toward adolescent and young adult suicide prevention awareness. Goucher’s women’s lacrosse program previously became involved with the organization during the team’s spring break trip to Southwestern last March. Click here to learn more about LAX-4-LIFE.
Student-athletes spent earlier portions of the week writing thank you notes to their professors along with an invitation to Friday’s contest.
The Gophers will enter the game with a 9-4 record this season, including wins in each of their last two matchups. The team is on pace to post its best record since the 2004 squad finished 12-5.
