Gophers Open Swim Seasons at Stevenson, Women Top Hood
OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Goucher College swimming teams opened their 2024-25 seasons on Saturday in a tri-meet hosted by Stevenson University at the McDonogh School on Saturday, with Hood College also competing. The Gopher women split, defeating Hood 107-83 and falling to the Mustangs 136-66. Goucher's men fell to the Blazers 120-55 and Stevenson 155-31.
The women picked up three first place finishes on the afternoon. First year Kaitlyn Firth took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:08.54, while also finishing first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.17. Max McCoy placed first in the 100 yard freestyle with a mark of 58.50 seconds.
McCoy and Avery McEachern placed second and third in the women's 50 free, with McCoy swimming in 26.71 and McEachern checking in at 27.46 seconds.
Ella Robinson came in third in the women's 200 IM with a time of 2:35.52. She also swam the 1000 freestyle and came in fourth with a time of 13:12.85.
Kan Jarvis was third in the 200 freestyle with a 1:12.22 effort.
The women's 200 medley relay consisting of Leia Zeligman, Robinson, Olivia Reichardt and McCoy finished second with a time of 2:07.11.
For the men, first year Joshua Contreras finished third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.94 seconds.
The men's 200 medley relay made up of Ben Graff, James Piland, Contreras and Aiden Grimm placed third with a time of 1:50.94. The 200 freestyle relay also came in third with a time of 1:45.82, made up of Graff, Francisco Garcia Ibanez, Christian Houck and Piland.
Goucher returns to action next Saturday at Juniata at 1 pm. The Gophers' home opener is set for Friday, October 25 at 5 pm against Elizabethtown and Immaculata at the von Borries Aquatic Center.
