Gophers Shine at 4th Annual Larry Sharpe Memorial
Hagerstown, Md. - All around, the Goucher Track and Field team had quite the day at the 4th Annual Larry Sharpe Memorial. It is highlighted by Anna Gallina (Whitehall, Pa. / Whitehall) and her first place finish in the 55m. Her time was 7.79. Neli La Court Ruiz (York, Pa. / Northeastern) finished fourth in the same race with a time of 7.94.
In the 200m, Sydney Smith (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason HS) placed sixth in 28.35. Gallina was right behind her with a time of 28.35 and finishing seventh. La Court Ruiz was also in the race and came in thirteenth with a time of 29.64. Michell Wolinsky was the next Gopher to cross the finish line. Her tim of 30.64 put her in twentieth place. Shayla McLish occupies the twenty-third spot and a time of 31.17. Last, but not least, is Victoria Wheeler (Kinnelon, N.J. / Kinnelon). Wheeler crossed the finish line in 32.50 and in twenty-fourth place.
Wheeler, Wolinsky, Gallina, and Smith competed in the 4x400 relay. The team finished in second with a time of 4:45.21. Zoe Mitchener placed fourth in the 55 hurdles in 12.59. To round out the women's team, Estelle Chock placed third in the pole vault. She reached the 2.28m mark.
The men's team also had great finishes as well. Joel Gladney (Perry Hall, Md. / Perry Hall) was third in the shot put. He reached the 11.46m mark. Right behind him was Brandon Julot (Baltimore, Md. / The SEED School). Julot shot 11.39m to finish fourth. Darby Bauer (Perkiomenville, Pa. / Boyertown Area) reached the 10.23m mark to gain seventh in the event.
Gladney and Bauer also competed in the weight throw event. Gladney reached the 12.01m mark and third place. Bauer was close behind by reaching the 11.58m mark to grab fourth place.
The team will compete in one more meet before the Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. On February 23, the Gophers will travel to Kline Gymnasium in Carlisle, Pennslyvania for the DuCharme Invitational.
