Goucher Track And Field Heads To Landmark Conference Track And Field Championships On Saturday
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Goucher College track and field team heads to the Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Susquehanna University on Saturday.
Susquehanna's no spectator policy remains in place, but Susquehanna will be providing live video and live stats for the meet.
For the Gopher men's track and field team, the squad has three athletes seeded in the Top-8 in three events.
Junior Joel Gladney (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) is seeded fourth in the discus after his program-record throw of 41.02 at the Eastern Shore Challenge on April 10. Gladney's toss of 11.95m at Salisbury was also his best throw of the season at the Eastern Shore Challenge.
Freshman Mustafa Honeyblue (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Senior) will go into his first championships ranked sixth in the 100m with a time of 11.58, and he sits 11th in the 200m with a time of 23.74. Both times were recorded at the Eastern Shore Challenge.
Fellow freshman Sean Whitfield (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic) ranks seventh in the 400m after his 53.44 time at the Blue Jay Tune-Up on May 1. Whitfield also ranks 14th in the 800m with a time of 2:06.84 set at the Moravian Coach Pollard Open on April 17.
The Blue and Gold women's track and field team has four marks ranked in the Top-8 of an event.
Freshman Tee Bakare (Silver Spring, Md./Archbishop Carroll) has two of those marks she established at the Moravian Coach Pollard Open. The freshman is seeded sixth in the 200m with a time of 26.78 and seventh in the 100m with a time of 12.99. Goucher has had two conference champions in the 100m (Destiny Phillips – 2012, Kamilliah Smith – 2016) and one conference champion in the 200m (Lexi Stewart – 2017) since the inception of the Landmark Conference in 2007-08.
Freshman Katherine Hernandez Guevara (Hyattsville, Md./Bladensburg) ranks fifth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 14:08.29 set at the Blue Jay Tune-Up. She also is 19th in the 800m with her time of 2:52.47 from the Moravian Coach Pollard Open.
Stella Chock (York, Pa./York Suburban) is ranked sixth in the pole vault with her leap of 2.00m that she posted at the Susquehanna Easter Meet on April 3.
Freshman Jaelan Gabriel (Houston, Texas/Dulles) is coming off her best performance of the season at the Blue Jay Tune-Up to rank 12th in the 100m with a time of 13.70, and 18th in the 200m with a time of 28.65.
Junior Neli La Court Ruiz (York, Pa./Northeastern) is ranked 13th in the 100m with a time of 13.73 and 19th in the 200m with a time of 28.71. Both of those times were posted at the Moravian Coach Pollard Open.
Sophomore Tara Abdullah-Nri (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) is ranked 15th in the discus with her toss of 25.39m from the Blue Jay Tune-Up, and she also ranks 16th with her toss of 7.65m in the shot put from the Goucher Classic on April 24.
Junior Charlotte Birnbaum (Princeton, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) ranks 18th in the shot put with her leap of 3.60m at the Susquehanna Easter Classic, while senior Isabel Srour (Potomac, Md./Winston Salem) ranks 23rd with a time of 25:49.59 at the Goucher Classic.
The Goucher women's track and field team has registered 11 individual conference champions at the Landmark Conference Championships and two relay teams titles. In addition, the Gophers had 12 individual conference champions as a member of the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). The last conference champion was Taylor Gunter in the discus in 2019.
The Blue and Gold men are looking for their first conference champion in the outdoor season in the Landmark Conference. Goucher had five individual conference champions and a relay in the CAC.
Goucher track and field head coach Erick Camodeca will lead the Gophers at the Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships for the first time. Camodeca is looking for his third outdoor championship as a head coach after guiding Stevenson University (2019) and York College (2011) to conference titles.
