Thornton-Fillyaw Wins Landmark 1500 Meter Title on Day One
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Goucher College women's track and field sophomore Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw broke her own program 1500-meter record and won the Landmark Conference title in the event as the Gophers competed on day one of the Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Elizabethtown College.
Thornton-Fillyaw ran a time of 4.36.19 to take first place, besting her own record of 4:39.93 set last summer at the USA Track and Field U-20 nationals. She finished 0.8 seconds in front of Emily Moehringer of Catholic University. Her time ranks No. 44 in Division III this season.
First year Ray Asiedu qualified for the Sunday's women's 100-meter final with the eighth-fastest time of 12.86 seconds, placing fourth in the second of three heats. Asiedu was also No. 14 in the women's 200, running a time of 27.26 seconds.
Aaliyah Briddell finished 12th in the women's 100-meter hurdle prelims with a 17.26-second effort.
First year Emmanuel Olarewju qualified for the men's 110-meter hurdle final on Sunday, finishing sixth in the prelims with a 16.26-second run. He placed second in the second of three heats.
Senior Lydia Bailey had a personal best in the hammer throw with a toss of 34.19 meters.
Day two action of the Landmark Conference Championships commences on Sunday with field events at 11 am and track events at noon at Elizabethtown.
