Three School Records Fall at Landmarks Sunday
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Three Goucher College track and field school records fell on Sunday on the second and final day of the 2024 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Elizabethtown College.
Sophomore Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw broke her second school record of the weekend, lowering her own women's 800-meter record with a time of 2:09.81, with her previous best of 2:11.02 coming earlier this season. She placed second in a race that saw Thornton-Fillyaw and race winner Kelty Oaster of Elizabethtown break the previous conference record of 2:10.72, while third place finisher Emily Moehringer of Catholic also broke the previous Landmark Championship record of 2:11.74. Oaster, Thornton-Fillyaw and Moehringer posted the No. 8, 9 and 10 times in Division III this season.
First year Emmanuel Olarewju was a part of two record-breaking performances on the men's side. In the 400-meter hurdles, Olarewju placed third with a time of 57.50 seconds, breaking the previous school record of 57.84 seconds set by Steven Tenure in 2009.
The men's 4x400 relay team also broke the school record in that event set earlier this season, posting a time of 3:26.52. The relay consisted of KeMarco Monger, Olarewju, Aidan Kress and Sean Whitfield. The previous mark, set earlier this season, was 3:27.57.
Whitfield turned in a third place effort in the men's 800, running a time of 1:54.71. Kress finished fourth in the men's triple jump with a leap of 13.01 meters. Monger was fifth in the men's 400 with a time of 50.35 seconds, while in the men's 110-meter hurdles final, Olarewju slotted seventh with a mark of 16.47 seconds.
In the women's 100-meter dash final, first year Ray Asiedu finished fifth with a time of 12.97 seconds.
The women's 4x400 meter relay came in seventh, running four laps in a time of 4:19.36. The relay was made up of Imaya Edmonds, Thornton-Fillyaw, Asiedu and Nora Neall.
The Goucher men finished seventh with 29 points, while the women totaled 24 points to come in eighth.
