Gophers Set Four Program Records at TCNJ Indoor Open
NEW YORK CITY - The Goucher College men's and women's indoor track and field teams set four school records as the Gophers opened the season at the TCNJ Indoor Open at the NYC Armory on Saturday evening.
First year Nancy Nyadongo set a pair of records for the Gopher women. Nyadongo set the 60-meter dash record in the prelims, checking in second overall with a time of 7.73 seconds, eclipsing the previous mark of 7.91 seconds set by Kamilah Smith in 2013. Nyadongo also placed first in the 400, running a program-record time of 58.34 seconds. That broke the previous record of 59.65 set by Goucher Hall of Fame member Jaclyn Kellon in 2013.
The women's 4x400 relay finished second and set a program record with a time of 4:02.84.
Sophomore Jayden Keels set the men's mile record with a time of 4:30.87 to take first place. He bested the previous mark of 4:39.67 set by Joey Negreann in 2011.
Sophomore Emmanuel Olarewju placed first in the men's 400 with a time of 51.89 seconds. Classmate Sam Dylan finished first in the men's 5000 by posting a time of 16:07.69. Keels was third, coming in at 16:16.85.
Junior Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw was first in the women's 600, running a time of 1:35.24.
Jair Smith was third in the men's 600, recording a mark of 1:26.80. Lyndon Amoateng finished second in the men's triple jump with a 13.25 meter leap. Aidan Kress was third with a mark of 13.00 meters. Amoateng also finished seventh in the long jump at 6.13 meters.
In the women's 400, Terrica Thornton-Fillyaw placed fifth, 1.74 seconds behind Nyadongo at 1:00.08. Aryanna Paulena took third in both the women's high jump (1.53 meters) and long jump (5.28 meters) and fifth in the pole vault (2.85 meters).
