Gophers Compete at Landmark Conference Championship
Landover, Md.- The Gophers competed, this weekend, at the Landmark Conference Championship. With multiple podium and first place finishes Goucher had a successful championship. The men started the podium finishes for the Gophers with first place in the distance medley relay with a time of 10.33.90. The team consisted of Sam Dylan, Emmanuel Olarewaju, Jair Smith, and Jayden Keels. The men had two more podium finishes in the triple jump with Lyndon Amoateng coming in second and Aidan Kress in third. First year Nehemiah Covington has a personal record in the shot put with 14.23 meters that landed him in second place. Covington also placed sixth in the weight throw. AJ Landy comes in sixth place in the 200-meter race.
The women had multiple great finishes this weekend. Nancy Nyadongo wins the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.68. With this run she set a new personal record. Nyadongo also won the 200-meter dash setting a new landmark conference record with a run of 25.09. Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw wins the 800-meter race with setting a new Landmark record with her time of 2.09.06. First year Aryanna Paulena placed in multiple events. She clinched second in pole vault with a personal record of 3.68 meters. Paulena took first in the high jump and second in the triple jump.
Gophers not only had multiple podium finished they also won multiple awards. Nyadongo won women's Rookie of the Year and women's Track Performer of the Year. Paulena won the women's Field Athlete of the Year.
