TOWSON, Md. - The Gophers put an end to their two-game losing streak in style on Saturday afternoon when they defeated the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders 54-48.
It was a well-deserved win by Goucher. The contest was close throughout, and the largest lead was only 12 points by Goucher about halfway through the fourth quarter.
This contest saw more shining moments for the freshmen on the team. Anise Williams (West Palm Beach, Fla.) led the team with 15 points. Shelby Apostol (Oxnard, Calif.) sunk three 3-pointers in a row, giving the Gophers a large advantage in the second half. She also racked of three steals and six rebounds. It was Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md.) that picked up the most rebounds and assists, tallying 10 and 4 respectively.
Mya Lewis made her first appearance of the season (Owings Mills, Md.), having been benched for injury up till this point. Though she only clocked 6 minutes on the court, it sets her up for more playing time in the future as she continues to heal.
The Gophers will be back in action at The Deck on Tuesday, December 18th at 7:30 PM as they take on the visiting N.C. Wesleyan Bishops.
