Goucher Women's Basketball Falls At Juniata, 67-53
HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Goucher College falls 67-53 to Juniata College in Landmark Conference (LC) women's basketball action on Wednesday night.
Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) paced the Gophers with 17 points and eight rebounds. McFadden has scored double figures in six of her last seven games and is averaging 15.1 points per game in that stretch. She has posted 10+ points 12 times in 2018-19. She has also grabbed at least five rebounds in 14 of the 16 games this season and reached at least eight boards 10 times on the year. McFadden is second on the squad with 14.3 points per game while leading the team with 8.7 rebounds per game.
Nicole Wolard (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) registered 16 points while stuffing the stat sheet by adding six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal. Wolard has posted double digits in points for the fifth time in the last six games and 10 times this season. The senior has grabbed five rebounds in 15 of the 16 games and has a streak of 11-straight games with five boards. Wolard ranks third on the team with 10.3 points per game and second in rebounding with 7.5 caroms per game.
Anise Williams (West Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) added 14 points, nine steals and seven rebounds. The freshman has scored double figures in four-straight games and in 13 of the 16 games this season. She established a career-high nine steals and has recorded at least five thefts in a game four times this season and has 15 in her last two contests. Williams also has hauled in at least five boards eight times this season. The freshman leads the team with 15.8 points per game.
The Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead and went on to take the first quarter 9-3. Juniata extended its lead going into locker room at halftime to 31-20 after taking the second quarter 22-17.
After the Eagles took the third quarter by a score of 22-15 to grab a 53-35 advantage, Goucher posted its best quarter and won the frame by a 18-14 margin to set the final score to 67-53. Wolard and McFadden powered the fourth quarter surge with a combined 15 points.
Goucher returns to action on Saturday at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center against Morivian College. Tipoff is 2 p.m.
