The Goucher women's golf program hosted the Goucher Fall Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Hillendale Country Club in Phoenix, Maryland.
The Gopher's finished in third place behind champion York College and the second place finisher Mary Washington. Head Coach Hunter Brown commented on the two days "We hoped for a stronger showing on our home course but weren't able to put together a strong team score either day. This event really highlighted the areas where we need to go to work. We're excited for the opportunities that our spring season will afford us."
First-year Christina Pevey (Post, TX) led the Gophers with scores of 100-97 finishing in 8th place. Emmie Starchvick (Jackonsville, OR) finished in a tie for 10th with scores of 100-100. Also competing for the Gophers were Lauren O'Leary (Potomac, MD), who finished with scores of 112-125, Kianna Haskin (Waitsfield, VT), posting 120-132, and Whitney Duran (Stamford, TX), ending with 130-124.
Hillendale Country Club proved to be a tough test for all the teams in the inaugural year of the Goucher Fall Invitational and produced abnormally high scores amongst the competitors. "Hillendale is such a test around the greens and if you are not sharp with the short game the shots add up quickly. That makes it both a challenging and great championship venue." The Gopher's plan to host the event again next fall.
The Goucher Fall Invitational concludes the fall season for the Gophers. They will return to the links in March of 2018.
