Goucher Women's Golf Unveils 2019 Fall Schedule
2019 Women's Golf Fall Schedule
BALTIMORE, Md. - Head coach Hunter Brown has announced his 2019 Goucher College women's golf fall schedule. The schedule is highlighted the team hosting the Landmark Conference Fall Preview at the end of the fall slate.
"Three of our juniors are studying abroad this year (two in the fall and one in the spring) so the fall is a great opportunity for our three incoming players to get playing experience and develop," said Brown. "I'm optimistic that this will allow us to make significant progress over the course of the year. Last year was a big step in the right direction for the girls and I'm excited to see how it all comes together for us in the spring after our new players settle in and our returners are all back."
The squad will open the season at Jefferson University in a tri-match against Jefferson and Cabrini on September 22 at The ACE Club in Lafayette Hills, Pennsylvania.
After the tri-match, the team will look to build on its third-place standing last season at the Eastern Fall Invitational at the St. David's Golf Course in St. David's, Pennsylvania, on October 9.
"One of the lesser noticed points of last year was how significantly our girls team scoring average improved between year one and year two (especially last spring)," said Brown. "I think we're on the right track and that is one of the things I'm most excited about as a coach heading into this year."
The Gophers will head to Bloomfield, New Jersey for the NYU Fall Invitational at the Forest Hill Field Club on October 12-13 for the first appearance in the NYU-hosted event.
Goucher will host the Landmark Conference Women's Golf Championships in the spring and will host a conference-wide preview event at Queenstown Harbor – Lake Course in Queenstown, Maryland, on October 19-20 for the Landmark Conference Fall Preview.
"This will be the first time in Goucher history for us to serve as host of a golf championship so that will be special," said Brown. "I think the venue of Queenstown Harbor is going to be a great fit. We're going to work hard to prepare all year long and it would be great to see us put together a strong run for the championship as the host school."
Goucher finished sixth in the fall preview and then moved up to third place in the championships in the spring last season. For the second-straight year junior Christina Pevey (Post, Texas/Post) earned all-conference first-team honors for the second time in her career.
