DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Goucher's top two scorers in 2007 were among a total of 211 Division III players throughout the nation placed on an all-region team today by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Emily Blatter (Lexington, VA/Rockbridge County) and Kate Knitter (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) both landed on the All-Chesapeake Region first team, making them eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse Division III All-America Team that will be announced later this month. Goucher has now produced at least one all-region performer in the sport of women's lacrosse for 13 consecutive years.
Blatter was the leading scorer on a team that finished with an 8-8 record and reached the semifinals of the Capital Athletic Conference championship tournament. The rising senior collected 59 goals and 36 assists for a team-high total of 95 points, ranking fifth in the nation among Division III players with an average of 5.88 points per contest. She will head into her final season of eligibility already ranked third in school history in career assists with 64.
For Knitter, also a rising senior, this is the second time she has been recognized by the IWLCA as an all-region performer. She made the All-Chesapeake second team in 2006, but her 44-goal, 12-assist performance this year allowed her to advance to the first unit. She was among Goucher's leaders in ground balls (56), draw controls (49) and caused turnovers (14).
