TOWSON, MD — Goucher became the third Capital
Athletic Conference team to fall to Buffalo St. within a span of
four days when the undefeated Bengals defeated the Gophers, 8-5,
today.
Although the Gophers (3-6) never led in the game, they were only
down 4-3 after Whitney Groseclose (Boyce, VA/Mercersburg
Academy) tallied an unassisted goal with 4:59 remaining in
the first half. But by halftime, the Bengals (7-0) struck for three
goals to extend their lead to 7-3.
A pair of goals by Groseclose less than two minutes apart allowed
the Gophers to close to within 7-5 midway through the second half,
but Buffalo St. regained a three-goal advantage with 7:09 remaining
on a goal by Joni Hill.
The Gophers got off 27 shots, six more than the Bengals, who
defeated Villa Julie, 15-13, on Saturday and St. Mary's (Md.),
14-13 (2OT), yesterday.
