Career-Best 10-Point Effort for Junior MidfielderApril 7, 2007
ARLINGTON, VA — Kate Knitter (Sellersville,
PA/Pennridge) scored eight goals and was also awarded a
pair of assists in leading Goucher past Marymount, 21-5, this
afternoon.
Knitter got the Gophers (4-6, 2-2 Capital Athletic Conference) on
the scoreboard first, scoring an unassisted goal just :27 into the
contest. She tallied two more goals and Goucher enjoyed a 4-0 lead
before the Saints notched their first goal after more than seven
minutes had elapsed.
The eight goals and 10 points are career-best performances for the
junior midfielder. She's the first Goucher player to reach double
figures in points in a game since a nine-goal, two-assist effort by
Liz Martin in a 21-6 triumph over Villa Julie on April 23,
2001.
The Gophers' 21 goals were distributed among six different players.
Emily Blatter (Lexington, VA/Rockbridge County)
contributed four goals and three assists to the victory, while
Sandy Okun (Stevenson, MD/McDonogh School) and
Whitney Groseclose (Boyce, VA/Mercersburg Academy)
notched three goals apiece.
Ali Fulton accounted for three of Marymount's five goals.
The Gophers finished with 36 shots, while limiting the Saints (1-9,
0-5 Capital Athletic Conference) to only 13.
