Bengals Take Command After Giving Up Initial Goal

Goucher got on the scoreboard first today on an unassisted goal by Cindy Villarreal (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) just 2:18 into the contest, but less than seven minutes later, Buffalo St. had opened up a 6-1 lead and was on its way to a 16-8 triumph over head coach Katie Trainor's Gophers.
Two Goals, Pair of Assists for Cole in 2:58 Span of Second Half
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher got on the scoreboard first today on
an unassisted goal by Cindy Villarreal (Silver Spring,
Md./Wheaton) just 2:18 into the contest, but less than
seven minutes later, Buffalo St. had opened up a 6-1 lead and was
on its way to a 16-8 triumph over head coach Katie Trainor's
Gophers.
The run of six straight goals started with free-position shot by Katie Henderson and concluded with Ashley Caporizzo setting up Karen Shaddock. The Gophers (4-5) made it 6-2 when Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) stuck a free-position shot midway through the first half, but Molly Seifritz scored twice just :52 apart as the Bengals (4-2) extended their lead to 8-2 at the break.
At one point in the second half, the Gophers bunched four unanswered goals in a 2:58 span to close to within 12-7. Colleen Cole (Holliston, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon School) tallied two of the goals and picked up assists on the other two.
The Bengals finished with a 28-23 advantage in shots. Shaddock supplied five goals to the victory and Mariah DeBolt added three.
In addition to the two goals she scored, Cole was awarded assists on three of Goucher's remaining goals.
