Shorewomen Pull Away in Second Half for 14-9 Victory

Cole Sticks Five Goals, Boosting Team-High Total for Season to 31
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — When Colleen Cole (Holliston,
Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon School) scored her fifth goal
of the game off a free-position shot with more than 15 minutes
remaining, Goucher trailed Washington (Md.) by only two. But
the Shorewomen limited the Gophers to only one more goal the rest
of the way and emerged with a 14-9 victory this afternoon.
Cole tallied four of her five goals in the first half. The first three created ties at 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4; the fourth one put the Gophers (4-6) ahead 6-5 with 7:23 left to play before halftime. Before time expired, however, the Shorewomen (5-3) caught up at 6-6 on a goal by Allie Hanzsche and then regained the lead on an unassisted goal by Kalli Parrish.
Cole's only goal of the second half made the scored 10-8 with 15:34 remaining. It was her team-leading 31st goal of the season.
The only other players to score for Goucher were Mary Lambert (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) and Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth), who supplied the Gophers with two goals apiece.
The Shorewomen finished with a 32-16 advantage in shots, although that edge was only 13-10 in the opening 30 minutes.
