MADISON, N.J. – Players from Goucher filled five of the
spots on the 2009 All-Landmark Conference Women's Lacrosse Team
that was unveiled today by the conference.
Of the five, only senior midfielder Marlo Tersigni
(Boston, Mass./Lawrence Academy) was a first-team
selection. The others – sophomore midfielder Colleen
Cole (Holliston, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hebron School),
senior midfielder/defender Jenny Lucey (Newbury,
N.H./Kimball Union Academy), freshman attacker
Becca Smith (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) and senior
goalkeeper Brittany Foster (Portland,
Maine/Portland) – earned spots on the All-Landmark
second team.
The All-Landmark squad is composed of a first team and a second
team with 14 honorees on each one. The selections were made by
position and the voting was done by the conference's six head
coaches.
Tersigni, who was also a first-team All-Landmark selection in
2008, led the Gophers in assists (21), points (57), draw controls
(66) and caused turnovers (41) this season and ranked second in
goals (36). Nationally, she ranked seventh in caused turnovers
(2.64 per game) and 10th in draw controls (4.71 per game) in
Division III.
A starter in all 15 games this season, Cole tallied 35 goals and
handed out 20 assists for a total of 55 points. She also controlled
40 draws.
Lucey was a repeat second-team all-conference selection. In her
first three seasons with the Gophers, she scored a total of four
goals, but in 2009, she was one of five players on the team with at
least 25 goals.
Smith is one of three freshman to be awarded All-Landmark
recognition. She needed to take only 69 shots to finish with a
team-high 37 goals, a .536 shooting percentage.
Foster compliled somewhat similar statistics in 2009 as she did
last season when she was the Landmark's first-team goalkeeper. She
made 183 saves as a senior (up from 162), her goals-against average
dropped to 12.21 (from 14.50) and her save percentage increased
from .429 to .468.
