Profs Close Out Gophers with Late Seven-Goal Run
GLASSBORO, N.J. — Even though Goucher was never in the lead, head coach Katie Trainor's squad also never trailed Rowan by more than two goals during the first 44 minutes of today's non-conference game. And when Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) of the Gophers netted her third goal of the contest and team-leading 11th of the young season 11:36 into the second half, the two teams were knotted up at 6-6.
Khin Sticks Three Goals, Third One Creates 6-6 Tie in Second Half
GLASSBORO, N.J. — Even though Goucher was never in the lead, head coach Katie Trainor's squad also never trailed Rowan by more than two goals during the first 44 minutes of today's non-conference game. And when Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) of the Gophers netted her third goal of the contest and team-leading 11th of the young season 11:36 into the second half, the two teams were knotted up at 6-6.
That tie lasted for less than three minutes, however, as the Profs regained the lead at 44:01 on a goal off a free-position shot by Trish Harrington. When Rowan's Alli Dickey stuck a free-position shot at 49:00, Goucher was down two goals for the fourth time in the game.
And this time the Gophers weren't able to overcome that deficit. Instead, the Profs were able to add five more goals to their total down the stretch to come away with a 13-6 victory.
After spotting Rowan an early 2-0 advantage, Colleen Cole (Holliston, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon School) tallied back-to-back goals that allowed the Gophers (1-2) to pull even at 2-2 midway through the first half. The Profs (1-0) opened up leads of 4-2 and 5-3, but once again Goucher came back and an unassisted goal by Sara Miller (Baldwin, Md./Dulaney) just as time expired in the first half created a 5-5 tie.
The Profs finished with a 33-21 edge in shots, which forced the three goalies who played in the game to make a combined total of 25 saves. For Goucher, Ashley Shaner (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) played all 60 minutes was credited with 13 saves; for Rowan, Kerry Pehnke was in goal during the first half and turned away three shots, while Li8ndsay Barrie took over in the second half and made nine saves.
