Reifsnyder Contributes Five Goals to Second Win on Spring Break Trip
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Goucher jumped out to a 9-1 lead over Occidental tonight on the way to picking up its second win in as many games on its Spring Break trip to California, a convincing 19-8 victory over the Tigers.
Unassisted goals by Colleen Cole (Holliston, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon School) and Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews Episcopal) had the Gophers (5-3) leading 2-0 just 2:20 into the contest, but the Tigers (1-4) got on the scoreboard for the first time on an unassisted goal by Isabel Osgood-Roach to close to within 2-1.
Reifsnyder's goal off a free-position shot hiked Goucher's lead to 3-1 and ignited a run of seven consecutive goals that, by the time Hannah Brown (Pinedale, Wyo./Dunn School) tallied an unassisted goal with 12:13 remaining before halftime, provided head coach Katie Trainor's squad with a 9-1 cushion.
At the end of the first half, Goucher enjoyed only a 21-17 advantage in shots, but the Gophers were up 13-4 where it counts the most.
Once Becca Smith (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) and Sara Miller (Baldwin, Md./Dulaney) tallied goals in the opening 2:46 of the second half to put Goucher up 15-4, the Gophers' lead remained in double figures the remainder of the contest.
Reifsnyder, who erupted for seven goals in the opening game of the trip against Whittier, contributed five goals to tonight's victory. Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) and Smith added four apiece.
Sara Kessler was the leading scorer for Occidental as she furnished the Tigers with three goals and an assist.
Ashley Shaner (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) was solid in goal for the Gophers as she registered 14 saves.
