Khin Sticks Four Goals, Conference-Leading Total Rises to 49
MADISON, N.J. — Despite a 17-save effort by Ashley Shaner (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), Goucher bowed to Drew, 12-7, in Landmark Conference action this afternoon.
Although the Gophers (5-7, 0-3 Landmark) never had the lead in the first half, they didn't trail by more than three at any point until Becca Schild scored for the Rangers (6-7, 1-1 Landmark) with :06 remaining before halftime, putting the home team up 7-3.
Goucher didn't score its first goal of the second half until 14:04 had elapsed and Drew had opened up a 9-3 advantage. Starting with the third goal of the contest for Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) and ending with an unassisted goal by Andi Lipson (Langhorne, Pa./George School), the Gophers outscored the Rangers, 4-2, over a stretch over nearly 10 minutes to close to within 11-7, but of the four shots they were able to get off over the final 5:06, one went wide and the other three were stopped by goalie Rachel Hanley.
The three saves down the stretch hiked Hanley's total for the contest to 12. The 17 saves by Shaner, meanwhile, match the most by the sophomore goalie in any of the 25 games in which she has appeared during her career at Goucher.
Khin supplied the Gophers with four goals, boosting her Landmark Conference-leading total for the season to 49. Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews Episcopal) chipped in with two goals.
Seven different players scored goals for Drew, which unleashed a total of 37 shots, eight more than Goucher.
