MADISON, N.J. — Goucher placed six players on the 2011 All-Landmark Conference Women's Lacrosse Team.
As revealed today, the team includes 28 student-athletes, with at least two from each of the five institutions in the Landmark Conference which sponsor women's lacrosse as an intercollegiate sport. Position-by-position voting was done by the head coaches and the balloting produced 14 first-team selections and an equal number of players on a second unit.
Two of the six Goucher players who were accorded all-conference recognition were first-team selections: senior defender Sara Miller (Baldwin, Md./Dulaney) and sophomore midfielder Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth).
Miller, a second-team All-Landmark selection in 2010, led the Gophers with 38 draw controls this season, plus she ranked second in ground balls (40) and was tied for second in caused turnovers (20). She also tallied eight goals.
Khin, like Miller, moved up from the All-Landmark second team in 2010 to the first team this season. With 66 goals — the most by a Goucher player since Emily Blatter's 68-goal performance in 2008 — and eight assists, she finished with a team-leading total of 74 points, along with 36 ground balls, 37 draw controls and 14 caused turnovers. She achieved a .589 shooting percentage and 22 of her goals were off free-position shots.
Colleen Cole (Holliston, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon School), a first-team All-Landmark selection in both 2009 and 2010, is one of Goucher's four representatives on the second team this season. A senior midfielder, she supplied the Gophers with 26 goals and 16 assists, 27 ground balls, 36 draw controls and 13 caused turnovers.
Becca Smith (Leesburg, Va./Leesburg) is also making her third appearance on the All-Landmark Team, each one on the second unit. A junior attacker, she scored 27 goals and handed out 13 assists this season, while also picking up 28 ground balls, controlling 12 draws and forcing three opponent turnovers.
The two Goucher players who earned all-conference honors for the first time are sophomore goalie Ashley Shaner (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) and freshman midfielder Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews Episcopal).
Shaner was the starting goalie for the Gophers in all 16 games. In 960 minutes, she allowed 213 goals for a 13.31 goals against average and made 192 saves for a .474 saves percentage, plus she was credited with 26 ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Reifsnyder is one of just four freshmen on the All-Landmark squad. She led the Gophers with 52 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers, and her 37 goals is the most by a first-year player since Blatter compiled 41 goals back in 2005.
